Basic Obedience Classes

This is the most informative basic obedience class around!

Our Basic Obedience class is 6 weeks long and includes a 4 hour online seminar to be watched prior to your first class. Each class is two hours in length, so you will receive 16+ hours of professional dog training and advice in our comprehensive class!

Great obedience doesn't just come from teaching your dog to sit and lay down, it's the time between formal commands that really counts! Our online seminar alone provides you with so much detailed information on how to create a balanced environment for you and your dog.

This hands on group class will give you great control and teach you how to be a great dog handler. We use balanced training methods, showing you how to properly use both positive and negative reinforcement so your dog easily and clearly understands what you are communicating to them. We also use treats and toys to make it rewarding and fun for your dog!

This class is a must if your dog is having any behaviour problems, or you just want to have better control of your dog.

Great obedience doesn't just come from teaching your dog to sit and lay down, it's the time between formal commands that really counts!

This will be the most informative formal basic obedience class you will ever see. We take our time and make sure every dog and handler have what they need to be successful. Your dog will learn to respond to you on the first command, not when they decide to listen, and we make sure they are having fun while working for you.

This class will cover:

  • Sit, Down & Sit from a down
(in heel position and six feet away from your dog)

  • Sit & Down 'stay'
(with distractions - in heel position and six feet away from your dog)

  • Formal Recall

  • Heel with automatic sit
(both formal and informal loose leash walking)

  • Food refusal / leave it

  • A play / recess command and more!

We specialize in the handling and training of reactive and aggressive dogs—we’ll work hard to include you in our class and not put you in a corner or ignore the issue.

Formal Training

Your dog will learn all these commands in a new ‘formal’ training language. Why? Your dog most likely already knows the basic commands in English, but are they reliable? Meaning will they respond to these words 100% of the time, even around distractions? Chances are they don’t, and this is because from time to time you’ve let them get away without listening. So, you can continue to use your English commands when you’re at home, but when your dog needs to listen—when you’re in public or when you have company over, when he needs to be on his best behaviour – you will have a new formal language that they know they must respond too.

The goal is to have both informal (off-duty) and formal (on-duty) training commands. You can choose any language you like; you can even use random words. I’ve had clients use town names, and football terms for their commands. You can have fun with it! This will be explained in depth during your orientation, and you will receive a list of formal commands to choose from or you can choose your own.

In order to pass this class, you and your dog must pass our Basic Obedience test on the last class to earn your certificate!

This class will be challenging to both dog and handler, but it will also be fun and rewarding!

Please contact us if you have any questions about this class.
